Overview
The International MA/PhD Program in Education Policy and School Reform (EPSR) is offered by the Department of Education at ECNU in Shanghai, which is a leading institution in teaching and research in education in China (ranked top A+ by the Ministry of Education). Meanwhile, this program integrates academic resources of other related faculties at ECNU and those of New York University Shanghai. The EPSR program consists of a variety of course modules, such as research in education, education policy, school reform, teacher development, student learning, and education history and culture. The medium of instruction is English for all courses.
The EPSR program is designed as a research-oriented postgraduate program for overseas students, which aims at facilitating an in-depth understanding of the theory and practice of education policy and school reform from the Chinese views as well as an international and comparative perspective, under a globalized context. More specifically, international students can make use of the EPSR program as an academic and professional exposure to
Learn Chinese education policy within a broad social, economic and political context;
Investigate school reform and improvement from Chinese experiences; and
Learn Chinese language and culture in real life.
The EPSR program will equip students with cross-national edges for further international collaboration and competition, which prepares them to lead the development of education in respective areas in the future.
Throughout the course of study, students will be encouraged to actively participate in class discussions/debates, attend field trips, deliver oral presentations, carry out collaborative learning and teamwork. They will be required to submit reading assignments, study-trip reports, term papers, and a final dissertation for assessment. The program design and the modes of delivery will lay a solid foundation for most students to shape their significant frameworks of professional knowledge. Furthermore, the orientation, coursework, lectures, cultural studies and school visits in Shanghai and beyond will help students prepare for their future professional career. Students will get familiar with the cultural differences between China and elsewhere, be motivated to develop critical thinking, acquire skills and techniques in analysing education policy and school reform from a comparative perspective, and be inspired to better live and work in a globalized context.
