Recently, Springer Nature announced the list of English academic books which won the third China New Development Awards. Handbook of Education Policy Studies co-edited by Professor Fan Guorui from Department of Education, East China Normal University and Professor Thomas S. Popkewitz from Department of Curriculum and Instruction, University of Wisconsin-Madison is on the list!

About the awards

Springer Nature launched the China New Development Awards in 2019 to recognize the important research contributions of Chinese scholars to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The award-winning books are all from a collection of nearly 820 books and conference papers published by Springer and Palgrave Macmillan in 2020. The editors in each book all include Chinese scholars and every book is directly related to one or more of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, covering hot topics in a wide range of disciplines, including environmental science, education, medicine, social sciences, business and economics. In 2015, the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit formally adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The China New Development Award is part of Springer Nature's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aims to promote the realization of SDGs by facilitating the sharing of relevant research results.


The Selection Committee for the China New Development Awards is composed of Springer Nature's in-house full-time editors and the managers of sustainability project, with the scientific value of research and its social impact as the main criteria.

About the award-winning book

Handbook of Education Policy Studies, composed of two volumes and published by Springer, took five years to complete, with the participation of 48 scholars from 16 countries and regions. Based on the perspective of globalization, the development of education is in an increasingly complex and volatile social environment. At the macro level, this book depicts the mainstream value and important trend of contemporary education reform, reveals the complexity of the multi-dimensional interaction between contemporary social, political, economic system, and education policy and education reform. And at the micro level, this book shows the reform practice of school organization, teachers, curriculum, teaching and evaluation within the world's major national education systems. This book not only discusses the theory of educational policy ethics, but also presents the diversified reform program to solve specific educational problems, and also contains the thinking on education reform and education policy research methodology, providing an important reference for the development of education reform in various countries.
