Our Department Hosted the 2nd Young Education History Scholars Salon Successfully

From May 11 to May 12, 2019, the "Second Youth Education History Scholars Salon" hosted by the Education History Branch of the China Education Society and the Department of Education of the Department of Education of East China Normal University was held in the small auditorium of the office building of the North Campus. . The Youth Education History Scholars Salon adopts the organizational form of submission review and invitation reports. A total of 84 manuscripts were received during the deadline for submission of the salon. Three experts were invited to an independent and anonymous review by the organizing committee, and 26 papers were officially presented. More than 80 teachers and students from more than 20 colleges and universities across the country participated in the exchange seminar.

On the morning of May 11, the sun was shining brightly and the wind was smooth. The salon was officially opened. The opening ceremony was presided over by Teacher Zhang Liyong from the Department of Education of East China Normal University. Professor Du Chengxian, Vice Chairman of the Education History Branch of the Chinese Education Society, delivered the opening speech. Mr. Du first extended a warm welcome to young scholars from universities across the country, fully affirming and encouraging the academic standards and preparations for the selection of this year's salon. At the same time, Mr. Du also pointed out that there are many Chinese studies, few foreign studies, few institutional studies, few ideological studies, many modern studies, few ancient studies, many historical studies, and few educational studies. Phenomenon, as well as the status quo and prospects of educational history research in this regard, made a concise analysis, and placed expectations on young scholars.

Subsequently, the salon seminar was officially launched. The formal session of the salon was one and a half days, and it was divided into seven sessions. The salon adopts an organizational form that simplifies the process and focuses on the discussion. Each paper is described, reviewed and discussed. Since the full text of the papers had been sent to the participants in advance, each speaker only briefly stated the core of the paper in five minutes; then the reviewers also started the review in five minutes to propose pertinent corrections and discussion. It was not flamboyant, and then the teachers and students of the meeting added their comments and questions. Finally, the spokesperson responded. The seminar was warm and lively. The teachers and students at the meeting all said that this kind of organization is simple and efficient, and the style is fresh and fresh. They learn from each other, and they have their own achievements. They are quite conducive to the sage's so-called "Impression of Friends and Friends of Friendship".

Due to the inter-departure meeting, this year's salon has also expanded two activities in and out of the program. The first is academic writing and publishing. On the evening of May 10th, the delegates who attended the conference in advance were invited to participate in the "English Academic Writing and Publishing Salon (Special Session on Education and History)" sponsored by the Department of Education, East China Normal University. The salon was hosted by Li Lin, and more than 60 teachers and students from and outside the school participated in this exchange. The keynote speakers were Professor Mark Freeman (Co-editor of History of Education) at the University College London and Professor Chen Shuangye (Deputy Editor-in-Chief of ECNU Review of Education) at the East China Normal University. The two guests combined their academic writing and academic editing experience to present the key points of English academic topic selection, writing, submission, and revision, and have deep exchanges with the present scholars.

Next is the school history visit. After the afternoon meeting on May 11, Professor Chen Hualong of the School History Archives of East China Normal University (the participants of the current Salon Conference) volunteered to lead the participants to visit the University History Museum and act as an explanatory note to further understand the school-running philosophy of East China Normal University, the evolution of the school history, and Yifan, a famous scholar in the "Liwa context". The study of educational history and culture has gained a deeper insight here.

On the morning of May 12, after the salon discussion, a discussion on the organization of the salon was held. Teachers Zhang Liyong and Li Lin, Department of Education, East China Normal University, made speeches respectively, describing the origin and purport of the creation of young educational historians Salon, and the process and experience of organizing and hosting the current salon. Subsequently, delegates freely spoke freely, believing that the young salon was rich in connotation, fresh and pragmatic, and discussed the organization work of the salon in the future, with a view to improving it. Finally, Professor Wang Huimin, Department of Education, Zhejiang University, spoke on behalf of the third salon sponsoring unit, outlined the idea of hosting, and welcomed the attending teachers and students to continue to pay attention to and support the young salon. So far, the agenda of the 2nd Young Educational Historian Sharon has come to a successful conclusion.
