1. Cultivating Objective

 (1) Learn to grasp the spiritual essence and master the methodology of Marxism, Mao Zedong Thought and the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and thoroughly apply the Scientific Outlook on Development. Love the country and observe the law and discipline. Have rigorous scholarship, good conduct, great enterprise and dedication. Make positive contribution to socialist modernization.

(2) Have a knowledge about both the development of domestic and overseas educational theory and its latest achievements. Fluency in a foreign language. Master the methodology and specific method of educational science research. After graduation, they can perform independent research in educational theory and the Exploratory Practice of educational reform. Be competent at the teaching, research and management in this major or relevant majors.

2. Cultivating Method and Duration

(1) Cultivating Method

 A combination of supervisor guidance and steering group cultivating.

(2) Duration

 3 years, no more than 5 years.

3.Research Concentration

This major can be divided into four parts and 12 research directions:

Part A: (1) Educational basic theory; (2) Educational Philosophy; (3) Educational ethics; (4) Principles of Moral Education;

Part B: (5) Educational anthropology; (6) Educational sociology; (7) Educational research methods;

Part C: (8) Teacher education; (9) research of students’ development;

Part D: (10) revolution and development of basic education; (11) Life-long education; (12) Family and community education;

4. Credit and Curriculum

(1) Course and Credit

The course of master includes common course, elementary course and specialized course. The common course includes the common required courses of political theory and foreign language, and common optional courses of research method. The elementary course is required. The specialized course includes major required courses which are established by subject group and major optional courses which indicated research direction.

 The curriculum examination can be divided into exam and exploration. The text score of exam uses hundred-mark system and the explorational performance scores in grades.

 The cross-major’s students (the undergraduate subject cross the first level discipline with the master subject can be viewed as cross-majors) and the students of equivalent education level, the supervisors can require them to repeat courses according to their courses performance of undergraduate and the requirement of this subject, but the credits can’t replace the required ones.

Credits of this discipline is 31 at least, and the branch program can’t be lower than the following requirement, then students can step into the graduation thesis defense

 The political courses of common curriculum include Research on the theory and practice of socialism with Chinese characteristics (2 credits), Marxism and social science methodology (the graduates of humanities and social science, 1 credit), Dialectics of Nature (the graduates of medicine, science and engineering, 1 credit), foreign language (4 credits), Research ethics and academic norms (independent study, exam on the internet and no credit).

 The selective part of common curriculum is the second Foreign Language, Computer Application, Information Retrieval and Research Methods. The graduates can choose one of them (2 credits).

 The credits of degree basic courses should be 9 at least, 5 for the professional courses (required), 6 for the he professional courses (selected), 2 for the cross-disciplines or cross-majors (selected).

5. Research Achievements Requirement

Encourage graduates to publish high quality academic articles, but there is no uniform requirement of academic achievement for graduates during their studies.

6. Assessment

 (1) Annual assessment

The first year is the formation of basic academic ability. The graduates should hand in an annual assessment report at the end of the seminar two, about 5000-10000 words. The content can be a reading report, literature review or research report, etc.

 (2) mid-term examination

Time: at the end of seminar four, the graduate school and management units should take the mid-term examinationfor graduates according to the exam method of basic reading ability.

Content of examination: Course performance review, teaching and researching ability, social practical ability, thesis proposal and political and ideological education. Be subject to the common inspection of supervisors and instructors. The thesis proposal is subject to the evaluation of demonstration team.

The system of evaluation, selection, correction and elimination: 1) evaluation: graduates who pass the exam can write the dissertation; 2) selection: select the graduates who are excellent in Political and ideological morality, academic achievement and research ability to advance to doctoral study or graduate; 3) correction: graduates who can’t pass the evaluation, such as can’t pass the thesis proposal, have poor research ability, fail the curriculum should delay graduation or dissertation; 4) elimination: graduates who has harmful trends in political and moral behavior, poor academic performance and low research ability will be advised to repeat.

7. Dissertation Requirement

(1) Proposal elements. The dissertation proposal should include: 1) explain the reason of topic selection; 2) clearly express the objective and significance; 3) systemically and clearly introduce the process and trends of academic research domestic and overseas; 4) research design; 5) research stage and plan; 6) innovation point and key problem; 7) research content; 8) difficulties, questions and problems of the research; 9) references.

(2) Proposal evaluation and demonstration. Supervisor and 3-5 professors in relevant research field will evaluate and demonstrate the proposal. They will analyze and assess the research value and feasibility. If the proposal has one of the following situations, it should be reformed: 1) non-valued or almost non-valued thesis; 2) simply repeat others’ research and has no innovation or almost has no innovation; 3) research design is rough, exists serious defect or can’t be operated.

(3) Dissertation defense qualification. 1) no illegal or disciplinary record and pass the political examine; 2) meet the requirement of this program 3) no plagiary or infringement; 4) the published article didn’t have serious mistakes or the translation didn’t distort original; 5) dissertation passes the peer review.

(4) Dissertation requirement. 1) the topic has theoretical and practical significance; 2) research theme is clear and specific, possessing consciousness of problems; 3) be familiar with the relevant academic background, master the research frontier trends and understand the problems solved by previous researchers and the problems left; 4) having a strict logic and structure and being able to discuss the problem completely and systematically; 5) the dissertation can reflect that doctor masters the solid and expanded basic theory and systematic professional knowledge; 6) the dissertation has innovative research results.

(5) Academic standard. 1) respect others outcomes and be serious to the documents; 2) finish the dissertation independently with the guidance of supervisor; 3) express the research outcomes practically and realistically; 4) language should be refining and the key words should be appropriate; 5) abstract should conform to the text and protrudes new opinions and innovative outcomes; 6) language should conform to modern standard Chinese without ill-formed sentence; 7) wrongly written characters, wrong punctuation and spelling mistake should be controlled under five over ten thousand ( calculated according to the length).

(6) Pre-defense. Doctoral students who want to apply for dissertation defense should pass the pre-defense which is organized by institution and department. They will organize supervisor and relevant professors to listen to the appliers’ dissertation process, give advice and determine whether the appliers can attend the defense in time.
