1. Cultivating Objectives

(1) Students can grasp the ideas and methods of Marx doctrine, Mao Zedong Thought and Deng Xiaoping Theory, support the basic lines of Communist Party of China, love our motherland, abide by the law and discipline, be strict in academic discipline, conduct integrity, and take an active part and make contributions toour society.

(2) Students can systematically grasp the theory of socialist education with Chinese characteristics and foreign educational theories, they should understand the development process and latest achievements of educational theories at home and abroad, and they must master a foreign language well.

(3)Students can fully grasp the methodology and specific methods of educational scientific research, independently engage in educational theory research and educational reform and exploratory practice, and are competent for teaching, research and management of this major and related majors.

(4)Students have high educational policy analysis and research accomplishment, and they can become a senior talent in policy decision consultation and policy research for education.

2. Cultivating Method and Duration

(1) Cultivating Method

 A combination of supervisor guidance and steering group cultivating.

(2) Duration

 4 years, no more than 6 years.

3.Research Concentrations

(1) Research of Educational Policy, including research of policy theory, methods of decision, policy implementation, policy ethics, monitoring and evaluation, and foreign education policy, etc.

(2) Research of Educational system, including research of management and finance system, teacher system, curriculum system, examination system, school system, etc.

(3) Research of Educational law, including research of government, schools, teachers, students and other laws and regulations, etc.

4. Credit and Curriculum

(1) Course and Credit

The courses for successive postgraduate and doctoral program students include common courses, elementary courses, and specialized courses. Common courses include political theory, foreign language and other common compulsory courses and optional courses, students must take at least 7 credits; as for common optional courses, students must take 2 credits at least, not less than 1 credit, common optional courses can also be offset by degree programs. The elementary course is a required course, students must take at least 3 courses and 8 credits; the specialized courses include offering professional compulsory courses by the discipline group as a unit and offering professional optional courses which are fit in professional study. The credits of specialized courses (compulsory) are 6 credits, students must have at least 3 courses; the students’ specialized courses (optional) should take at least 10 credit, not less than 4 courses. Students should acquire at least 2 credits in cross-disciplinary or cross professional courses, not less than 1 course. The successive postgraduate and doctoral program students should acquire at least 35 credits.

5. Research Achievements Requirement

One of the following conditions must be satisfied by the research results published by the successive postgraduate and doctoral program students during the period of studying:(1) publish 1 academic paper in SSCI and A&HCI journals and he/shemust be the first author or his/her tutor is the first author and his/her own is the second author, East China Normal University is the first author unit.(2) publish 1 academic paper in the academic and authoritative journals of the Liberal Arts and he/shemust be the first author or his/her tutor is the first author and his/her own is the second author, East China Normal University is the first author unit. (3) publish 2 academic papers in the CSSCI Journals (including the Extended Edition) and he/shemust be the first author, East China Normal University is the first author unit.

The successive postgraduate and doctoral program students can apply for a degree after publishing a scientific research achievement during the period of studying.

6. Academic assessment

(1) Annual report

At the end of each academic year, the successive postgraduate and doctoral program students should report their learning and research progress to their tutors and guidance teams, and the departments and instructors sign their opinions before reporting to the graduate school for record.

(2) Basic literature reading ability assessment

The successive postgraduate and doctoral program students should master the basic literature involved in the field of research. At the end of the first school year, they should be examined by the department.

(3)Check thesis proposal

Afterfinishing the required credits, the successive postgraduate and doctoral program students need to complete their thesis proposal. Both two works must be done in their first school year. The department and graduate school will examine them at the beginning of the third semester.

(4)Check qualifications of defense

Students who graduate in fall semester musthave their defense qualifications checked before April 10th each year, those who graduate in spring semester must each yearhave their defense qualifications checked before October 31st. The specific date of audit is subject to notification. And the qualification audit of doctorial students' thesis defense mainly includes checking the course study and credits, scientific research results, and the participation of academic activities.

(5) Elimination mechanism

After a comprehensive assessment, if students are bad in performance, for example, political and ideological are bad, poor academic achievement and obviously lack of scientific research ability, they could be asked to drop out of the program.

7. Dissertation Requirement

 (A) Thesis proposal

(1) The topic is of theoretical and practical significance.

(2) The subject of the study is clear and the content is specific.

(3) A relatively systematic literature review that can show the progress and dynamics of the same research field at home and abroad.

(4) The design of the research is reasonable and operational.

(5) The plan of the research is detailed and the steps and its tasks are clear.

(6) It is necessary to respond and prepare for the difficulties, doubts and problems in the study.

(7) Some of the main reference materials have been obtained.

The tutors and 3-5 teachers who have the related research fieldwill work together to review and demonstrate the thesis proposal, they will analyze and evaluate the feasibility of the thesis research value and research program.

(B) Qualification of thesis defense

In accordance with the relevant provisions of the graduate school.

(C) Requirements for Academic Dissertations

(1) The topic is of theoretical significance and / or practical significance.

(2) The research topics are clear and specific, and have strong awareness of the problems to be solved.

(3) Be familiar with the academic background related to the thesis, understand the related research trends and identify what problems have been solved and what problems remain to be solved. The thesis does not omit important documents.

(4) There is a strict logical structure, which can make a complete and systematic discussion of the problem.

(5) It can reflect that the author grasps the solid basic theory and have professional knowledge systematically.

(6) There are new ideas or discoveries.

(D) Academic standards for academic dissertations

(1) Respecting the achievements of others and taking the literature seriously.

(2) Finishing the thesis independently under the guidance of the tutor.

(3) Expressingyour research results in a realistic way.

(4) The words and languages are correct, concise, and the key words are appropriate.

(5) The summary is conformed to the text, and can highlight the new ideas or innovative results of the thesis.

(E) Pre—defense for thesis

The successive postgraduate and doctoral program students who intend to apply for the degrees defense of a dissertation must participate in pre—defenseprocess organized by the Department.The teachers, tutors and guidance team members of the relevant departments of the college listen to the applicants’ comprehensive report on the progress and achievements of the thesis, put forward suggestions for further revising and improving the dissertations and make sure that the applicants can participate in the defense as scheduled.
