A Visit and Exchange of a Delegation from Monash University, Australia

An academic delegation from Monash University in Australia visited the Faculty of Education of East China Normal University to launch a series of academic week activities from November 25 to December 1, 2018. Dr. Adams Megan Ruth, Dr. Philip Wing Keung Chan, Dr. Hongzhi Zhang, Michael John Henderson, Kate Amanda Lafferty from the delegation came to the Department of Education for a visit and exchange. And they attended the symposium with Dr. Bu Yuhua, Dr. Peng Xinqiang, Dr. Dong Xuan, Dr. Wang Lijia from the Department at 3 p.m. on November 27.

At the symposium, Prof. Bu Yuhua introduced the overall situation of our departmentbriefly atfirst, including the history of the Department, disciplines, research advantages, teaching staff, students mix and so on. She said that the Department of Education is a research-oriented department with a profound academic tradition and rooted in the practice and reform of primary and secondary education. In recent years, the Department of Education has strengthened the pace of internationalization, and has continuously improved the levels of internationalization through international cooperation projects.

Then Prof. Philip Wing Keung Chan briefly described the situation of Monash University, especially in its School of Education. The University has a high reputation in the global comprehensive ranking, with 10 majors entered the top 100 in the world, and education major is one of the top majors in Australia. In particular, the professor pointed out that the management of the School of Education has broken the hierarchical boundaries, implemented flat management, and united researchers in the form of projects.

Next, other teachers from each side introduced their respective research fields and achievements one by one, which involved the practice and reform of primary and secondary schools, educational ethics, educational anthropology, teacher professional development, principal leadership, educational policy, lifelong education, student's growth and other disciplines. It was believed that these are very important research fields and based on them, the possibility of cooperative research could be discussed.

The Symposium lasted two hours. The two sides understood better about each other, discussed some topics of common concerned, and laid the foundation for further in-depth cooperation.
