Mr. Qu Baokui's pedagogical exploration and academic character

At 13:30 p.m. on October 16, 2019, the Department of Education and the National Institute of Schooling Reform and Development of ECNU jointly held the second academic report meeting on school anniversary in 2019.The theme of this meeting was “Celebrate in Advance the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the Department of Education——Alumni report meeting” .We invited our alumni, Professor Zheng Jinzhou, vice president of China Executive Leadership Academy. Pudong, to return to school to give the speech. The theme he shared was “Qu Baokui's pedagogical exploration and academic character”. Professor Yang Xiaowei presided over the meeting, and more than 80 teachers and students from different departments attended the meeting.

Mr. Zheng mainly reported from three aspects: Mr. Qu's pedagogical exploration, his academic character and the inspiration of his spirit to us.


First, Professor Zheng summed up Mr. Qu's seven tenets in the exploration of Pedagogy: (1) He attached importance to the exploration of the origin of pedagogy and advocated thinking back to the origin. (2) He emphasized the fundamentals of pedagogy, and paid attention to the investigation and classification of basic concepts, terms, principles and materials. (3) He focused on the evolution of pedagogy, sorted out and compiled research materials of pedagogy from home and abroad. (4) He started meta-pedagogy research and paid attention to the overall thinking of pedagogy theory. (5) He established the discipline classification of pedagogy and compile the series of branch disciplines of education science. (6) He attached importance to pedagogy methodology and emphasized the cultivation of philosophy accomplishment. (7) He expounded the creeds of pedagogy and encouraged us to think the educational theory rationally.

Second, in terms of academic character, Mr. Qu stressed that being a man first and learning second. He emphasize that we should be strict with ourselves and students. He also advocate academic discussion, and encourage academic exchange. Meanwhile, he advocate the combination of history and theory and keep innovation.

Finally, Professor Zheng believed that the inspiration given by Mr. Qu includes five aspects. (1) We should have enthusiasm for education and insist on researching of education. (2) We should pay attention to academic accumulation and actively learn from our ancestors and foreign researchers. (3) We should have the consciousness of Genesis and explore the origin of things. (4)We should pay attention to educational practice. (5)We should have a critical spirit and be good at independent thinking.

Afterwards, the teachers and students on the spot talked about their feelings and experiences around the report. Professor Yang Xiaowei mentioned in the final summary that Mr. Qu's emphasis on talents, pursuit of knowledge and love of education are worthy to be studied. Professor Yang hoped that the young students of the Department of education should adhere to their learning aspirations and make their own contributions to the development of China's education.
